Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between competition anxiety, psychological resilience, and sport motivation in swimmers. In our research, the survey method was used as the data collection method, and the study was conducted on a voluntary basis. The population of the study consisted of 218 individuals who regularly participate in swimming in Beylikdüzü district on the European side of Istanbul. In addition to a personal information form, participants were administered the Coping with Stress Scale, the Psychological Resilience Scale, and the Sport Motivation Scale. Spearman correlation analysis was applied to the research group as the statistical analysis method. The findings revealed that psychological resilience and coping with stress skills significantly and strongly predicted athletes’ motivation. In addition, a negative relationship was found between motivation level and competition anxiety, indicating that athletes with higher intrinsic motivation had lower anxiety levels. These results show that training processes should focus not only on physical performance but also on psychological preparation. In order to improve athletes’ anxiety management and increase their motivation, it is recommended to develop structured programs that support psychological resilience and coping with stress skills.
